Sport For Development

UNICEF - Sport For DevelopmentThrough physical activity, social interaction, competition, team work and fun, UNICEF has proven that sport and play are a valuable tool in the upliftment and education of disadvantaged and vulnerable children by teaching social skills and offering a sense of purpose with goals.

UNICEF has identified school sport as an effective tool which assists in the achievement of goals in the following key areas :

Health
Education
Gender equality
HIV and AIDS
Child protection

iKind Media assisted in producing a short documentary showcasing the UNICEF Sport For Development project in action at an Inter-Schools Tri-Provincial Tournament held in Durban. The football and netball tournament included school teams from the Free State, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal and encompassed children of various racial and social backgrounds. Partners in the project included the Department of Basic Education, Total and Love Life.

The tournament was shot over two and a half days and covered all the football and netball action, participant interviews as well as interviews with various stake holders including Lyle Jacobs (Sport For Development Project Leader), Nozipho Xulu Mabumo (Director : Safety, Enrichment and Sport in Education), Gugu Ndebele (Deputy Director General : Social Responsibility and Support Services), Patrick Mabasa (SASFA Competition Chairperson) and Thembi Mathawe (KZN Schools Netball Secretary).

We wish UNICEF huge success with this vital initiative… watch the documentary above.
