DOLLZ AT SUNCOAST CASINO

8 – 12 DECEMBER 2010

Click to enlarge…DOLLZ : Break-Thru Dance Company (BTDC), the Durban-based fusion dance troupe that wowed theatregoers with the pioneering “kaleidoscope” dance concept in Under Construction I and Under Construction II, continue to raise the bar in African dance by bringing ground-breaking performances to fans and dance enthusiasts alike.

Inspired by the spectacular Wade Robson-choreographed piece enacted on the UK series of the television show, So You Think You Can Dance, the aptly named Dollz unites different dance and music forms including modern hip hop, contemporary dance, street-style break dancing, classical ballet, soulful jazz and beat boxing, and promises a truly dynamic journey into fantasy, music and fusion dance. With the doll characters representing alternate life paths, the storyline delves into life’s complexities and the choices a lonely girl must make on her journey in the pursuit of happiness.

Conceptualized by Taryn Makaab; the director, founder and principal dancer of Break-Thru Dance Company (BTDC), in collaboration with Casey Swales; the acclaimed Durban-born and based ballet and contemporary dance choreographer, this dynamic duo’s creation will yet again focus the public eye on this dance act as “the” Christmas season’s primary source of entertainment.

Thanks to Break-Thru Dance Company’s powerful brand alliances – Suncoast (host venue for the show), iKind Media (photography, videography, animation and special effects), Function Décor (set and stage design), Microserve (web design), CDR Repro (printers), Black Coffee (sound, lighting and production logistics), Scott & Wells (hair and makeup), D2DI (emerging dancers agents), Hannah Jean and Charmaine Makaab (costumes) – the dance company is able to further deliver on its promise to bring the best of classy acts and performers to South African audiences.

The 30-strong cast of Dollz are drawn from a spectrum of dancers from a variety of different social backgrounds including the unique inclusion of Bonwa Mbontsi from Pietermaritzburg, one of 16 finalists from the second season of the SABC 1 series of television show, So You Think You Can Dance.

Dollz will be staged at The Zone at the Suncoast Casino & Entertainment World in Durban from 8-12 December 19h30 with matinees on 11-12 December. Tickets cost R130 and are available from Computicket on 083 915 8000 or www.computicket.co.za.
